Is there an aspect of your life that overwhelms you and leaves you feeling like you need help? Living life authentically often leads us to encounter these types of challenges. Sometimes we can trace the origin of our distress back to a particular event or experience such as a relationship or job dissatisfaction. Other times, the origins are more hidden and leave us scared and confused. The effect of this distress can take many forms, typically depression and anxiety. Talking openly in the safety and confidentiality of a therapeutic relationship can bring some relief.

Humans have evolved to be social beings. Psychotherapy is both a healthy way to express our humanity, and a social process that contributes to our health. I offer an empathic and non-judgmental attitude as a basis for forming a collaborative relationship with you. Within the context of this therapeutic alliance, you will have a confidential space to talk openly for 50 minutes. Simply expressing your suffering in a trusting relationship can lead to a healthy release of emotions. Sometimes the talk can be a creative way to bring meaning to your distress, making it more conscious, manageable, and in some cases, minimal.

Research has shown that most psychotherapy approaches share certain therapeutic ingredients such as establishing a relationship, setting treatment goals, and enhancing positive expectations. These common factors are what lead to therapeutic change. The therapy I provide can help you experience life more deeply, enjoy more satisfying relationships, resolve painful conflicts, and better integrate all parts of your personality.

How I can help you:

First and foremost I believe that trust, safety, and mutual respect are necessary conditions for successful therapy. I provide a warm, open, and safe space for my clients to freely discuss whatever is on their mind. I believe that one of the many benefits of therapy is the client’s experience of being fully seen, heard, and understood by their therapist.  

I work with my clients to understand what is troubling them, and reflect with them on how the problem came to be. Goals are developed collaboratively as they relate to the challenges the client is facing. As we work together, I tailor the course of treatment to my client’s needs and preferences.

My primary approach is schema therapy. This approach looks at how early life can create “schemas” that shape how we think, feel, see the world, see ourselves, and relate to others.

In addition to schema therapy, I integrate techniques from a range of other modalities, including emotion-focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and internal family systems (IFS).
